Providence Lactation Educator RN - Postpartum Care in Spokane, Washington

Description

The Lactation Specialist for the women's Health Center is a skilled Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of current registered nursing experience in maternal child setting in an acute care hospital. Participation as a member of the Lactation Team and supporting the patients and staff. S/he has advanced understanding and skill level in teaching/learning principles of breastfeeding to new mothers whether in the NICU, Mother-Baby unit or in the outpatient clinic environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Nursing degree/diploma required upon hire.

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or higher within 3 years of hire or equivalent educ/experience.

  • An RN with 20 years of RN experience will not be required to obtain a BSN.

  • Any previously agreed upon effective date for obtaining a Bachelor's degree in nursing between individual and facility will remain in effect.

  • Any collective bargaining contract with specific timeframes for obtaining a Bachelor's degree in nursing will supersede the above point and will remain in effect.

  • Exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis at each facility by the most senior administrative nursing leader in consultation with the Human Resources leader.

  • RNs employed prior to 1/1/2017 are encouraged to obtain a Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing but obtaining such degree will not be a condition of employment.

  • Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.

  • National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.

  • Active IBCLC certification upon hire or obtained within first year of employment.

  • 3 years of Current nursing or Lactation Specialist experience in obstetrical or newborn care in an acute care hospital.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing upon hire.
