The Research Scientist registered nurse in this position assumes responsibility for:
Leading caregivers in the integration and translation of research findings into practice.
Leading nursing and interprofessional research studies within the region, service area, and ministries as requested.
Teaching and leading innovative educational programs to support a culture of inquiry, including the practices of quality improvement and the use of evidence, and with a primary focus on nursing and patient care research.
Planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the human and material resources necessary to support completion of research studies led or co-led by registered nurses, with interprofessional teams.
Teaching and coaching mentors and research teams in the dissemination of study results.
Collaborating with, instructing, and leading system, regional, service area, and ministry research councils and teams.
Pursuing own program of research both as a role model and to add to the knowledge in one's specialty.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates a spirit of inquiry that inspires and encourages nurses and interprofessional caregivers to incorporate evidence in finding answers to clinical questions.
Assumes responsibility for coordinating nursing and interprofessional research, using evidence-based practice methodologies to improve patient care and nursing practice.
Provide oversight, direction, and support of nursing research fellowships or other research courses.
Understand and teach/advise on the improvement of nursing-sensitive quality indicators, nurse sensitive patient satisfaction questions and participation in quality improvement initiatives and councils.
Role model personal and professional growth through continuing education and certification.
Establish, coordinate and lead research plans, project timetables, assess time and effort for negotiating budgets with the PI, and coordinate resources to ensure timely project completion.
Manage and lead projects by meeting with sponsors, nurses, mentors, and principal investigators.
Act as a nursing research liaison to the IRB coordinator.
Critically review study protocols for scientific merit and feasibility, and suggest improvements when appropriate.
Identify sources for, and teach/support dissemination of studies, including the development of abstracts, posters, podium presentations, and manuscripts.
May participate on IRB and Nursing/Interprofessional Research Councils
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Business, or other related area. If the master’s degree is not in nursing, then the baccalaureate degree or doctorate must be in Nursing
BSN to PhD program, with or without a formal master’s degree meets this requirement
Ph.D. (Nursing, Education, or related program)
5 years Leading or facilitating quality and evidence-based improvement projects
5 years Experience as a PI or CoPI, or directing a variety of research studies
3 years Teaching research processes to/for RNs
Required upon hire: Washington State Registered Nurse License (Vendor Managed)
Required within 2 years of hire: Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP)
