Providence Health & Services Dining Service Specialist in Seattle, Washington


Providence is calling a Dining Service Specialist (Food and Nutrition Services, Variables, 0.4 FTE) to Providence Mount St. Vincent in Seattle, Washington. This position is responsible for providing seamless customer service in the area of meals/floor stock/nourishment/food preferences. Handles food according to HACCP guidelines and is aware of minimum standards for a quality food service operation. Adheres to standard recipes and plating guidelines. Responsible for accuracy of all assembled meal orders, maintaining par stocks, ordering supplies and rotating product for maximum quality. Interacts with other employees in a friendly and courteous manner. Acts as an effective customer service liaison to all customers and facility departments.

In this position you will:

  • Acts as a liaison between residents and supervisor/manager by communicating appropriate concerns and messages to supervisor/manager for follow up.

  • Conduct timely delivery and return of food to café, caterings, etc.

  • Adheres to “clean as you go” practice and maintains workstations as dictated in master cleaning schedule.

  • Arrange food on streamline and assures quality and availability of items needed for all residents.

  • Maintains adequate and quality supplies for assigned work area without overstocking.

  • Adheres to safe work habits as dictated by OSHA and other standards established by department.

  • Assists with the serving of food to residents at assigned meal periods.

  • Assist with clean up of food and dishes after meal times as assigned by task descriptions.

  • Maintains overall cleanliness and sanitation of work areas.

  • Monitors food quantities and works with production staff to minimize food waste.

  • Participates in all staff meetings, mandatory in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all department policies, procedures and CQI programs and processes.

  • Participates in unit/department performance improvement activities to ensure the development and implementation of processes, which support quality service and effective work performances.

  • Uses printer, telephone, voice mail and paging technology.

  • Consistently demonstrate skills of tact, poise, organization, public relations and confidentiality.

  • Effectively manages tasks and overall time management in an effort to be prepared for challenges that may occur.

  • Consistently demonstrations attention to detail and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Understand and effectively demonstrates the “Core Competencies” as outlined.

  • FLOAT RESPONSIBILITIES: If an employee is assigned a Dining Services Float position, this job description will include Host, Diet Aide and Prep Aide; As a Float an employee must be able to work multiple job responsibilities including Diet Aide, Prep Aide and Host positions; Employee must be able to work day and evening shifts, which may include working 12-hour shifts and/or split shifts, performing multiple job responsibilities; Employee will be placed on a 40-hour pay plan, which entitles the employee to receive overtime payment of one-and-a-half times the regular rate of pay for any productive hours worked that exceed 40 from Sunday through Saturday each week.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Food Handlers Card in Washington State within 14 days of hire

  • Six (6) months experience working in a dining services environment

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Six (6) months experience in customer service
