Providence Supervisor Genetic Counseling in Burbank, California

Description

Daily supervision of genetic counselors that will provide an exceptional patient-centered care, providing risk assessment, genetic testing and counseling services. Foster a common vision, provide clear direction and priorities, and build effective Genetic Counselor team committed to organizational goals and consistent with organization values. Coach and develop staff, define qualifications and competencies of staff, and provide opportunities for development. Oversee programs, including novel service delivery, pathology screening, and high-risk programs. Cultivate volunteers, interns, and trainees through the department. Participate in departmental, regional and system based clinical research. Create accountable reporting to manager/director on volumes, successes, challenges and needs. Lead team meetings. Assess staffing needs and triage regional staff to ministries based on variations. Maintain strong relationships with regional physicians and Cancer Center Management. Assist in managing budgets, including short- and long-term planning. Responsible for the charge master and billing. Provide feedback and assistance in annual goal development and data approval. Serve as Genetics representative for various cancer site programs and committees (COC, NAPBC, NAPRC etc). Receive and respond to patient/family complaints concerning patient care, analyzes concerns and takes appropriate action. Assist with the development of a departmental strategic plan, complying with organizational guidelines which identifies objectives for increasing market share and volumes. Manage human resources to achieve the highest levels of performance by retaining and attracting the most competent employees. Manage the staff, workflow processes and procedures for all Genetic Counseling services. Monitor, edit and approve employee’s bi-monthly time and attendance. Manage and direct orientation, education and training of all support staff. Perform new hire and annual evaluations. Represent the program at department, hospital and community events. Provide genetic counseling for patients at-risk for a hereditary cancer syndrome with required pre and post-test elements. Conduct intake interviews, to include: ascertain problem, concerns and reasons for referral; take a complete medical and family history; arrange for indicated lab tests and required medical records; and arrange for return visits as appropriate. Synthesize medical consultation reports for the patient, referring, and treating physicians. Present cases and participates in summary appropriate tumor boards to summarize cancer genetic case conference for review of personal and family history, genetic testing results, risk management recommendations and identification of other clinical and research options appropriate/available. Assist program development, clinic design, billing and tracking mechanisms in the development of cancer genetic service line and in additional hereditary cancer risk assessment service lines. Participate in collaborative cancer genetics research, including enrolling subjects into a cancer genetics registry, coordinating studies, and assisting in the development or identification of additional research protocols for individuals and families at high risk or undergoing genetic cancer risk assessment. Develop educational materials for patients and providers regarding genetic cancer risk assessment and/or specific hereditary cancer syndromes. Participate in in-service education for healthcare personnel and marketing events for the general public. Participate in cancer case conferences, program meetings, community events, and Grand Rounds when appropriate.

Required qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling, Clinical Genetics, or related field.

  • CA Department of Public Health Genetic Counseling license.

  • Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.

  • Three years of clinical genetics experience.

  • One year lead or supervisory experience.

  • Experience in program analysis, operations, and performance tracking.

  • Experience developing business plans.
